Foster parent recognition

In 2005, Calgary and Area Child and Family Services Authority established a recognition program to honour the dedication and service of the Regional Authority's foster parents.

Each year foster parents are recognized for their years of service in 5-year increments beginning at 5 years of service, through 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years of service.

In 2006 two recognition celebrations are scheduled: a recognition event for Aboriginal foster parents in May 2006 and a recognition event for non-Aboriginal foster parents in October 2006.

Foster Care Recognition Program Criteria

For the 2006 Recognition Program the eligibility criteria are:

1. The cut off date for this year's recipients will be December 31, 2005. The program is not retroactive.
2. Recipients must be currently fostering for the Authority in the Calgary and Area region.
3. Time fostering in other regions in Alberta will be taken into account.
4. Time fostering for Agency or out of province will not be taken into account.
5. If the foster family has been on hold or is currently on hold, this time will be taken into account.
