The Supported Child Care Program gives children with special
needs an opportunity to be included with their peers in child
care settings by providing extra support to child care facilities.
Eligibility
Licensed or approved child care programs (daycares, school age programs, family child care)
who wish to include a child with special needs whose parents are working or in school.
Getting Started
- Contact the Calgary and Area Child and Family Services regional office, or call our Child Care
Information Line at (403) 297-6100 to request information
on the Supported Child Care Program.
- Have your child care facility contact the Calgary and Area Child and Family Services office to
initiate the program.
Next Steps
- After a request has been received from a child care facility for the Supported
Child Care Program, one of our consultants will arrange a time to visit the
facility where the child is or will be enrolled.
- During the visit, the Supported Child Care Consultant and the child care
facility staff discuss the facility's eligibility for the program and the
type of support required by the facility to meet the needs of the child.
Note: Support may include professional development of child
care staff, consultation on child care programming and inclusion, resource
and referral information and/or funding for additional staff.
- The decision to include a child with special needs or to work with the Supported
Child Care Program rests with the child care facility.
- Supported Child Care services are offered at no charge to parents or child
care facilities.
