The Family
Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) Act came into effect in
Alberta on August 1, 2004. This legislation, which is unique in Canada,
focuses on families by providing supports while the are awaiting a diagnosis and
by ensuring access to information and services across the province. The goal of the Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program is to:
- Sustain the child within the family.
- Facilitate the child's developmental growth and participation in community
life.
- Retain family involvement if a child requires out-of-home support.
Programs
Calgary and Area Parent Advisory Committee
The purpose of the Calgary and Area Parent Advisory Committee (CPAC) is to
act as a liaison between families of children with disabilities and the Calgary and
Area Child and Family Services Authority (CFSA) and related agencies to ensure input
to policies, procedures, services and future developments of the Family Support
for Children with Disabilities Act (FSCD) as intended by the FSCD legislation.
In doing this, the committee always strives to consider the best interests of children
and their families; and to provide transparent communication of the resulting activities
to the Provincial Parent Advisory Committee (PPAC), the CFSA Board members, stakeholders and the general public.
