The Supported Child Care Program provides assistance to child care facilities,
enabling them to include children with special needs.
Eligibility
Licensed or approved child care facilities who wish to include a child with
special needs in their program, for those parents who are working or attending school.
Getting Started
The child care facility must contact the regional Calgary and Area Child and Family Services office, or the central
Child Care Information Line at (403) 297-6100 to request information on the
Supported Child Care Program.
Next Steps
- After a request has been received from a child care facility for the Supported
Child Care Program, one of our consultants will arrange a visit to the
facility where the child is or will be enrolled.
- During the visit, the Supported Child Care consultant and the child care
facility staff discuss the facility's eligibility for the program and the
type of support required by the facility to meet the needs of the child.
- Support may include professional development of child care staff, consultation
on child care programming and inclusion, resource and referral information,
and/or funding for additional staff.
- The decision to include a child with special needs or to work with the
Supported Child Care program rests with the child care facility.
- Supported Child Care services are offered at no charge to parents or Child
Care facilities.
